A gun control activist used a shooting in Nashville, Tennesse, to advocate for action.

After a press conference on the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville on Monday, a woman took the opportunity to appeal for action on gun control.

“Aren’t you guys tired of covering this? Aren’t you guys tired of being here and having to cover all these mass shootings?” she asked reporters.

She went on to share she lives in Highland Park, Illinois, where there was a mass shooting on July 4, 2022. That shooting left seven people dead and dozens injured.

She went on:

“My son and I survived a mass shooting over the summer. I am in Tennessee on a family vacation with my son… I have been lobbying in D.C. since we survived a mass shooting in July. I have met with over 130 lawmakers. How is this still happening? How are our children still dying, and why are we failing them?”

IJR reported at least three students and three adults were killed after a shooter opened fire, according to officials.

Police said officers “engaged” the gunman, and the suspect “is dead.”

After the shooting, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asked

Officials say the shooter is a female and the shooter was “armed with at least two assault-style weapons and a handgun,” as CNN’s Abby Phillip notes, citing the press conference.

Police say the shooter was 28 years old, per a White House reporter for The Associated Press.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesperson John Howser said in a statement, “We can now confirm 3 children and 2 adults from the school shooting were transported to our Adult Emergency Department (2 adults) and (3 children) to the Pediatric Emergency Department at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.”

“All 5 patients have been pronounced dead,” he added.

According to NBC, the school “serves pre-school students through sixth graders.”
