Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff went on a long tirade about Todd Blanche’s past work experience during the Attorney General nominee’s Wednesday confirmation hearing.

Schiff first brought up several investigative cases, saying the acting attorney general violated ethical rules by allegedly creating conflicts of interest.

“You can’t accuse me of violating my ethical rules and then lie about what I did,” Blanche fired back.

Schiff then shot into a long-winded statement saying, “What I don’t understand Todd Blanche, what happened to the Todd Blanche who was a prosecutor of the Southern District of New York? What happened to the prosecutor people had respect for? What happened to the prosecutor who once respected the rule of law?”

“What happened to the prosecutor who said there wouldn’t be a whiff of political partisanship and then prosecuted the president’s enemies over seashell cases over making a video stating the plain law and constitution?” Schiff continued. “What happened to the Todd Blanche of the Southern District of New York, that could covert him into you?”

Schiff also questioned Blanche on matters involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) despite the Democrat being investigated in 2025 by the Department of Justice (DOJ) over alleged mortgage fraud. He then created the “Senator Schiff Legal Defense Fund” during the probe.

“I’ll tell you this, I think Robert Caro got it right when he said power doesn’t corrupt as much as it reveals. I suspect it has just revealed who you are,” Schiff continued, referring a journalist and biographer beloved among American liberals.

Schiff continued to accuse Blanche of being involved in conflict of interest saying that refusing to release to the public the investigative report of the Mar-a-Largo classified documents case was a conflict of interest.

“What you’re saying happens to not be true. I did not do that,” Blanche said in response to Schiff’s accusations.

Trump has nominated Blanche to be the permanent successor to former Attorney General Pam Bondi, under which he served as deputy attorney general. He continues to lead the DOJ in an acting capacity and his confirmation hearing will continue into Thursday.
