Perhaps Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin needs to read Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”
Monday’s Politico Playbook reported Mullin is facing backlash from both outspoken MAGA influencers and others in the administration.
“It takes a lot to unite this administration around a cohesive point of view,” an unnamed senior administration official said. “Mullin deserves credit where credit is due. Everyone agrees he sucks donkey butt.”
Mullin was at the National Governors Association summer meeting in Oklahoma City Saturday and was a little controversial with his views on amnesty for migrants, which was seen as soft for many MAGA supporters.
“If we’re looking to grow our economy, we need more permanent solutions on [work visas], because this narrative that it steals American jobs is true in some industries, it’s not true for all industries,” Mullin said. “It is America. We want to take care of Americans first. It’s our economy, it’s our homeland, but there’s a way to utilize labor where we’re not having the participation rate we need to, and we can plug those holes.”

Immigration hardliners didn't agree with those comments.
“Mullin is the wrong guy at the wrong time for the wrong job — a time when we need focus on ‘mass deportations,’ we get an amnesty advocate,” Steve Bannon told Politico.
Mullin turned to X after the speech to clear up any misconceptions.
“NO amnesty for illegal aliens,” Mullin wrote. “Ever. We are a nation of laws. If you are illegally present in the United States of America— you will be detained and deported. Period.”

Mullin’s amicable interaction with Gov. Wes Moore (D-Md.) Saturday did not bode well within MAGA circles.
Politico reported that Mullin has a “surprisingly chummy relationship” with another Democrat — Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA).
“He’s a people pleaser, and that doesn’t work when you’re a Cabinet official,” the unnamed White House official said.
All the while, numbers of removals, arrests, detention population have increased.
President Donald Trump has not hopped on the anti-Mullin bandwagon yet.
“The President has confidence in Secretary Mullin and his entire Administration to carry out the agenda the American people voted for,” White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson said.
