Amanda Seyfried says the backlash she received after commenting on the death of Charlie Kirk became so intense that she felt compelled to hire a bodyguard.
According to Fox News, during an interview with British GQ, the actress reflected on the criticism she faced after describing Kirk as “hateful” following his murder in September 2025. Seyfried said the reaction left her concerned for her safety and changed how she approached speaking publicly.
“A, I’m allowed to f****ing voice my feelings, and B, do it in a way that’s not unkind necessarily,” Seyfried said. “But there’s just an outsized fear and hatred and impulse to bash and to tear down. And I experienced a very small fraction of that.”
She said the experience made her think about the future her children will grow up in and whether people can freely express their views without fear.
“I want my kids to be able to feel safe to voice their opinions as long as they’re not harmful,” Seyfried said. “So, I’m like, ‘What do I do? What do I say?’ And then all of a sudden I find myself with a f****ing bodyguard at the airport and I’m like, ‘This is crazy.’”
After the controversy erupted last year, Seyfried posted a statement on Instagram seeking to clarify her position. She wrote that while she strongly disagreed with Kirk’s rhetoric, she also condemned his killing.
“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable,” she wrote.
“No one should have to experience this level of violence,” she added. “This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”
In the caption accompanying the post, Seyfried said she wanted to provide context after her earlier remarks had been “taken out of context.”
Months later, the actress made it clear she had no intention of apologizing. During a December interview with “Who What Wear,” Seyfried defended her original comments, saying they reflected “actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes.”
“I’m not f****ing apologizing for that,” she said, adding that she felt her words had been “recontextualized.”
Seyfried also discussed the political climate more broadly, saying she tries to keep her perspective despite her frustrations. While criticizing President Donald Trump, she remarked that dwelling too much on Politics could make someone “go f****ing insane,” describing the current climate as difficult to process.

She can state insane stupid comments. And then hires a bodyguard when comments confronting her stupid comments scares her.
