Former Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized the party on Monday for failing to deliver for the working class.
Cuomo, who is running for New York City mayor as an independent after losing Juneâs Democratic primary, shamed the party on âMorning Joeâ for allowing housing prices to drastically surge and for becoming âdisconnectedâ from working class Americans. The former Democratic governor of New York stated that the Democrats cannot name anything they have done to deliver for working families.
âShame on you, Democratic Party, because you havenât delivered. The Democratic Party, I think the the two main issues, they have become disconnected frommainstream working families who were our base, my fatherâs base, BillClintonâs base, President Obamaâs base,â Cuomo said. âWeâre not at their kitchen table, numberone, and number two, we donât produce. We donât deliver. Senator Ted Kennedy, Godrest his soul, told me as a young fellow before I ever ran for anything, whenpeople walk into the voting booth, they have to know one thing you did thatchanged their lives.â
âYou canât name something that the Democratic Party didthat changed their lives, right? That they know inherently. The DemocraticParty has to produce. The far left runs ,â Cuomo continued.Â

The average cost of rent in New York City amounts to $4,029 per month, making New York one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. The city has an average monthly cost of $4,130, with groceries costing between $400 and $500 per month.
Cuomo argued that Mamdani is unqualified to be the next mayor because he had the âworst attendance recordâ in the New York State Assembly and has never held a real job.
âFor mayor, 33 years old, neverhad a job, never managed anything. An assemblyman passed three bills, worstattendance record in the New York State Assembly. As a mayor, as anexecutive, as somebody whoâs supposed to get things done, no, thatâs going tosound the problem,â Cuomo said.Â
Mamdani has campaigned on implementing rent freezes, raising the minimum wage to $30 and adding government-run grocery stores and buses. He has come under fire for previously calling the New York Police Department (NYPD) âwicked,â âcorruptâ and âracist,â though he has walked back those comments and tried to assure voters that he will not defund the police.
Mamdani stated in a resurfaced video from a 2021 Young Democratic Socialists of America conference that the end goal of socialism is about âseizing the means of production.â
Cuomo stated during the mayoral debate on Thursday that Mamdani is not a Democrat, noting that he did not even vote for former Vice President Kamala Harris. Mamdani did not deny Cuomoâs accusation.
