If Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden winds up winning the nomination, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) says she will support him ā despite supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the primary.
During an appearance on āLate Night with Seth Meyersā on Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez was asked if she would support Biden in the general election.
āYeah, you know, Iāve said throughout this entire process that what is so important is that we ultimately unite behind who that Democratic nominee is,ā she said, adding, āItās a two-way street, Iāve been concerned by some folks that say if Bernieās the nominee they wonāt support him. And the other way around.ā
āRight now, November, you know this is the more important than all of us, and we really need to make sure that we defeat Donald Trump at the pollsā she added.

In anĀ interviewĀ with Time Magazine in February, Ocasio-Cortez called on Democrats to rally around Sanders if he wins the nomination, āBernie has said this, I absolutely believe this: whoever gets the nomination, we have to rally behind them, no matter who it is.ā
āAnd I would hope that everybody would do so if Bernie is the nominee as well,ā she added at the time.
Ocasio-Cortez hasĀ previously criticizedĀ Bidenās policies and suggested that āin any other country, Joe Biden and I would not be in the same party, but in America, we are.ā
Despite her differences with Biden, Ocasio-Cortez said that Democrats must come together to support the nominee and ensure they defeat President Donald Trump.Ā
Her comments come as some fear that if Biden wins the nomination, supporters of Sanders will not vote for him and cost Democrats the presidential election.
