Arizona’s Supreme Court building was evacuated Monday after a suspicious package was found, which reportedly tested positive for “homemade explosives.”
Sometime before 10:30 a.m. local time, court officials found a package with no return label in Arizona’s Supreme Court building, according to AZ Family. The building was evacuated, with Phoenix’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) posting a confirmation on X.
“BREAKING NEWS @ATFPhoenix is on scene at the Arizona Supreme Court Building at 1501 W. Washington St. Phoenix, AZ to investigate a suspicious substance found at the location,” the ATF stated.
While it is unclear when the package was initially delivered, an email reportedly sent to the court’s mail room confirmed the package “tested positive for homemade explosives,” according to 12News.
Per the email, a complete sweep of the building will be conducted with the package removed in the process.
Both the State Courts Building and surrounding parking lots have been evacuated and closed, with videos circulating online
