‘Back Up’: Democratic Rep Clashes With Fox News Host Over ‘Passion’ For Illegal Immigrant Crime

Democratic Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey appeared to lose his temper at Fox News host Will Cain after Cain accused the congressman of lacking emotion about the crimes that illegal immigrants commit.

President Donald Trump’s administration conceded it accidentally deported a Maryland man with alleged ties to MS-13, but one who had protected legal status, to an El Salvador prison in March, according to The Associated Press. Cain, after arguing for the man’s return on “The Will Cain Show,” said he wished Ivey cared just as much about crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

“I do like what you said about the law should be dispassionate, but you’re a congressman, and I’m a media member. There’s no such requirement for us when we analyze these issues for us to be dispassionate,” Cain said. “I want to see the same passion from you on those issues of the crimes of illegal immigrants as you do for this error when it comes to legal immigrants. That’s what I hope for you.”

“I prosecuted the crimes of illegal immigrants for eight years. I locked up more people in my day than you ever did,” Ivey said. “So don’t lecture me about not being passionate about prosecuting illegal immigrants who do something wrong. I’ve done it. You haven’t. Back up.”

Ivey previously served as the state’s attorney for Prince George’s County, according to his official biography.

“Today, you write the laws,” Cain said. “Congressman, you don’t prosecute the laws. You write the laws.”

“I did a joint prosecution with Rod Rosenstein of MS-13 when he was the U.S. attorney and I was the state’s attorney,” Ivey said. I’ve done this before. You have not. Don’t sit there and lecture me about being passionate about people who break the law. I’ve done it. You have not.”

Cain said he thought Ivey took his accusation “a little more personally than intended.”

“What I’m talking about is not your past, but your present,” Cain said. “Where we apply passions today in our current jobs, not our former jobs.”

A confidential informant said that the man taken to El Salvador, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was an active member of MS-13, according to a Monday court filing that quoted ICE officials. His lawyers deny it, according to the AP.

Vice President JD Vance similarly accused people of caring more about the alleged gang member than potential victims of their crimes in a Tuesday X post.

“It’s gross to get fired up about gang members getting deported while ignoring citizens they victimize,” Vance wrote.
