The doctor tasked with monitoring President Joe Bidenās Health made headlines ā not for what he said, but for what he reportedly refused to say.
Dr. Kevin OāConnor, President Joe Bidenās longtime physician, appeared before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Wednesday, finally facing lawmakers after weeks of delay. But in the closed-door deposition, he went silent after less than an hour ā invoking his Fifth Amendment rights and refusing to answer questions, according to committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.).
āPresident Joe Bidenās physician, Dr. Kevin OāConnor, just pleaded the fifth at his deposition before Congress today,ā Comer wrote in a post on X. And that was just the beginning.
āItās now clear there was a conspiracy to cover up President Bidenās cognitive decline after Dr. Kevin OāConnor, Bidenās physician and family business associate, refused to answer any questions and chose to hide behind the Fifth Amendment,ā Comer continued.
He added, āThe American people demand transparency but Dr. OāConnor would rather conceal the truth. Dr. OāConnor took the fifth when asked if he was told to lie about President Bidenās Health and whether he was fit to be President of the United States.ā
Comer didnāt hold back:
āCongress must assess legislative solutions to prevent such a coverup from happening again. We will continue to interview more Biden White House aides to get the answers Americans deserve.ā
Meanwhile, OāConnorās attorney, David Schertler, told ABC News that the doctor āasserted the physician-patient privilege, as well as his right under the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitutionā and declined to answer questions about his service during the Biden administration.
But Comer wasnāt buying it. Calling the move āunprecedented,ā he said, āI think this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up.ā
Ahead of the interview, Comer told reporters, āI donāt believe that he can hide behind doctor-patient confidentiality, because this is the president of the United States, and people expect the White House physician to be truthful and transparent about the president of the United Statesā Health.ā
OāConnor left the Capitol without speaking to reporters, per ABC.
