With less than a year until the 2024 election, President Joe Bidenâs approval rating is hitting new lows.
NBC Newsâ Steve Kornacki broke down the results of a poll released by the network on Sunday.
âPresident Biden, what is his job approval rating? We measure it now at 40% with 57% disapproving,â he said, adding, âThe significance? That is the lowest President Biden has ever measured in our poll in terms of job approval.â
Kornacki noted that in January, his approval rating sat at 46%, while 50% disapproved.
Host Kristen Welker chimed in, âSignificant dip there.â
Kornacki also pointed out independent voters disapprove of Bidenâs job performance âmore than two to one,â and added, âYou donât want to be there as an incumbent president.â

The poll found just 33% of respondents approve of Bidenâs handling of foreign policy, while 62% disapprove.
Thirty-four percent of Americans approve of his handling of the Israel-Hamas war while 56% disapprove.
Additionally, it found former President Donald Trump leads Biden for the first time 46% to 44%, within the pollâs margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the survey said about the results, âJoe Biden is at a uniquely low point in his presidency, and a significant part of this, especially within the Biden coalition, is due to how Americans are viewing his foreign policy action.â
âThis poll is a stunner, and itâs stunning because of the impact the Israel-Hamas war is having on Biden,â he added.
Still, Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, who also participated in the survey, cautioned critics of Biden about getting too excited by its results, saying, âThese are people who have a proven track record in voting for Biden and Democrats.â
âJury verdicts in Trumpâs trials, unforeseen events both foreign and domestic, and the rigors of a campaign all have a funny way of upending what may be true today,â he noted.
