Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino offered three scenarios of what may have happened to Nancy Guthrie.
NBCâs Savannah Guthrieâs mother has been Missing more than a week leaving little clues for investigators in Arizona.
Bongino appeared on âHannityâ Monday to relay his thoughts.
âThe first would be, obviously, itâs a kidnapping. That was an intended kidnapping for a ransom paymentâŠâ he said.
âThe second possibility would be this was just a crime that went awry,â he continued. âSomeone was at the house, maybe it was a burglary, maybe something went bad, and youâve got some bad actors committing another crime unrelated â in other words, requesting a ransom for something you didnât do just to take advantage of a situation like this.â
The third possibility is that her disappearance may not have been a kidnapping, but the result of a medical emergency or another non-criminal event that was later misunderstood or misrepresented.
Bongino said this theory is raised by the absence of digital, forensic and surveillance indicators, noting that when investigators are unable to locate someone within the first few days of a case, it can suggest either sophisticated perpetrators or that âthe story youâve been told, or you may have believed may not be the story.â
Bongino would not day what theory he favored. He said the lack of DNA, license plate hits, cellphone activity or social media data raises serious questions about the initial narrative.
Bongino said legitimate ransom kidnappings usually involve quick communication and early proof of life. This has not happened in Guthrieâs case.
