The sentencing hearing brought a grim final chapter to one of the most disturbing child murder cases in recent California history, as a Los Angeles County judge handed down multiple life sentences to two Parents convicted of killing their own children.
According to Fox News, Maurice Jewel Taylor Sr., 39, and Natalie Sumiko Brothwell, 49, were Sentenced Monday after a jury found them guilty last November of murdering their 13-year-old daughter, Maliaka, and 12-year-old son, Maurice, inside the family’s Lancaster home.
Prosecutors said the couple fatally stabbed both children on Nov. 29, 2020, then decapitated them. After the killings, Taylor and Brothwell forced their two younger sons — who were 8 and 9 years old at the time — to look at their siblings’ bodies.
Authorities said the surviving children were then confined to their bedrooms for several days without food.
The bodies of Maliaka and Maurice were not discovered until five days later, when firefighters responded to the home after receiving a call about a possible gas leak, according to KTTV.
Once inside, first responders found the remains of the two children, prompting a homicide investigation that quickly focused on the Parents
