âCBS Evening Newsâ co-host John Dickerson announced on Monday that he will be leaving the network.
Dickerson, who had been with the network for 16 years, was picked to replace Norah OâDonnell as host of the nightly broadcast news show alongside Maurice DuBois in January 2025. Dickerson told followers on Instagram his last show would be in December.
âLocal news: At the end of this year, I will leave CBS, sixteen years after I sat in as Face the Nation anchor for the first time,â Dickerson posted. âI am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave meâ the work, the audienceâs attention and the honor of being a part of the networkâs historyâ and I am grateful for my dear colleagues whoâve made me a better journalist and a better human. I will miss you.â
His decision to depart the network came less than four weeks after Skydance, the new owners of CBS Newsâ parent company, Paramount, named Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News after purchasing The Free Press for $150 million. Weiss is reportedly trying to poach âSpecial Reportâ host Bret Baier from Fox News.
CBS sent the Daily Caller News Foundation a copy of Dickersonâs statement after being reached for comment.
CBS settled a $10 billion lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over the editing of an October 2024 interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who was Trumpâs opponent in the 2024 presidential election, drawing criticism from inside the company, including from Dickerson.
âCan you hold power to account after paying it millions?â Dickerson said during the July 3 edition of âReporterâs Notebook.â âCan an audience trust you when it thinks youâve traded away that trust? The audience will decide that our job is to show up to honor what we witness.â
