Singer Cherâs mother, actress and singer, Georgia Holt, has died.
On Dec. 11, Cher announced the news on her Twitter writing, âMom is gone.â
A few months before her death, Cherâs mother was dealing with health issues.
In September, Cher shared on Twitter that her mother had pneumonia, but was getting better after leaving the hospital.
âSorry Iâve Been Mia. Momâs Been Sick Off & On.She Just Got Out Of Hosp. She Had Pneumonia.Sheâs Getting Better,â she wrote.
Holt was 96 years old.
In a documentary titled âDear Mom, Love Cherâ that aired on Lifetime in 2013, Cher spoke candidly about what she learned from her mother.
âShe never gave me and my sister advice because, truthfully, she knew weâd never take it. Instead, we learned about life by listening to her talk about the things she did wrong and the things she did right,â Cher said, according to People.
Cher also spoke on the relationship she had with her mother and whether they were always close.
âYes, but we fought a lot when I was young. I was really strong-headed, even then,â she explained, per People.
She also shared what she remembered about her mother when she was a child.
âShe and her friends were so beautiful. When they walked into the room, everything stopped. She was also an amazing dresser. We based the costumes inâMermaidsâon pictures of her from the â50s,â she said.
In the documentary, Cher revealed that her mother raised her and her two siblings on her own.
âOur mother was supporting us on her own â when someone says, âOh your mother was married that many times?â it was always the three of us ⌠there were never really men in the house,â she said, per The Guardian. Holt was married six times to five men.
In a phone interview with Huffington Post in 2013, Holt revealed that her mother tried to pressure her into getting an abortion when she was pregnant with Cher.
âI tell you. There are no words. My mother wanted me to because I didnât want to stay married, but obviously I couldnât do it. I remember when the door opened ⌠and I couldnât do it. And thank God I didnât,â she said.
