While President Donald Trump has insisted that he actually carried the November election, some Republican lawmakers have also publicly questioned the results of the election.
Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) recently announced that he will hold a hearing on the election āirregularities.ā
Johnson said in a statement announcing the hearing scheduled for next Wednesday, āThe fact remains that a large percentage of the American public does not view the 2020 election result as legitimate because of apparent irregularities that have not been fully examined.ā
During a Thursday speech on the floor Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said, āRather than accept the simple truth that Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States, there are actually sitting senators and congress members who prefer to undermine our democracy by indulging President Trumpās wild conspiracy theories about a stolen election.ā
After mentioning Johnsonās coming hearing next week, Schumer said, āWhen is this nonsense, detrimental to our democracy, going to end?ā
The Democratic leader added, āChairman Johnson should call off this ridiculous charade of a Senate hearing immediately. And if he wonāt, Leader McConnell should intervene to ensure that the committee does not indulge such quackery and conspiracy theories.ā

Johnson built a reputation during the campaign season for using his gavel to dig into Trumpās political foes.
Amid his probe into Obama-era intelligence community, Johnson said that his investigation is aimed at helping Trump, saying, āI would think it would certainly help Donald Trump win reelection and certainly be pretty good, I would say, evidence about not voting for Vice President Biden.ā
The Wisconsin senator also recently called on Attorney General Bill Barr to provide evidence to support the Department of Justiceās conclusion that Bidenās win was not the result of widespread fraud.
