Cindy McCain is explaining how the rest of the globe has apparently lost respect for the United States because of President Donald Trumpās administration.
She detailed her experiences overseas and how she witnessed the effects of Trumpās decisions on other countries.
āI was overseas at least once a month, if not more. Iād watch the demise of respect of our country around the globe, watch us leave our allies on the battlefield, watch us throw away our treaties, etc.,ā McCain told The Washington Post on Tuesday.
She added:
āYou say, āWell, weāre better than that.ā But finally, there comes a time when thereās no explanation anymore, and that was very much the case with me. There were so many people like my husband and so many millions of other people who served so nobly. And then to have it tossed away by someone who I donāt believe really understands what it means to serve.ā
McCain mentioned a report published by The Atlantic that alleges the president called American soldiers who lost their lives ālosersā and āsuckers.ā
āI thought, āMy God, how could somebody say something like this about our young people who are willing to fight and die for this country without being asked?āā McCain said.
She continued, āAnd somehow he thought that they were losers and suckers. And Iād listened to the rants against the Gold Star families, and each blow was a little worse than the last. That was all it took for me.ā
Trump has denied the report.
McCain praised President-elect Joe Biden (D), āJoe has great empathy, he has great leadership skills, he abhors incivility. Heās just someone who really believes in whatās so great about this country.ā
Biden received her endorsement back in September, as IJR previously reported.
McCain noted Trumpās attacks on her husband āprobably didnāt helpā the president gather votes in Arizona.
āI need to be clear that when John was alive, when a lot of this was going on, he laughed it off as something that was just ridiculous,ā she said.
