CNN host Abby Phillip did not push back when left-wing podcaster Jennifer Welch called White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller âa white supremacistâ and âa Nazi Jewâ during Welchâs âIâve Had Itâ on Thursday.
Miller has been a frequent target of the left, with activists scrawling hateful chalk messages outside of his familyâs Arlington, Virginia, home. After Welch made the comments on her podcast, Phillip did not dispute them whatsoever, simply saying she âcanât speak to what Stephen Millerâs motivations are.â

âStephen Miller is a white supremacist. I mean, he is. And heâs basically running the White House. They keep Trump busy with his decorating projects,â Welch said. âHeâs got building the arch now. Heâs got his Oval Office design. And then you have these real sociopaths that are real antisemites, true white supremacists like Stephen Miller. And even though heâs Jewish, heâs like a Nazi Jew.â
âWell, look, I canât speak to what Stephen Millerâs motivations are,â Phillip responded. âIâve met him. Iâve talked to him. Iâve interviewed him.â
Phillip added that she believed it was necessary to understand the motivations of powerful people, including Miller, but did not address Welchâs allegations about them.
âI do think that you have to understand what motivates the people who are in power. If people are in power, you got to understand what their ideology is,â the CNN host said. âLike truly understand what motivates them, where theyâre going. And I do think that that requires listening. I mean, I listen to what the Steve Bannons of the world say.â
âI listen very carefully to what Stephen Miller says because it really tells you where this is all heading,â she said.
Miller ended up placing his home on the market for $3.75 million after weeks of the left-wing activists chalking messages. The messages included âStephen Miller is destroying democracyâ and âno white nationalism,â local outlet ARLnow reported in September.
Miller also faced demonstrators at Washington, D.C.,âs Union Station in August, who were there to protest Trumpâs crime crackdown in the district.
Moreover, Miller refuted CNN anchor Boris Sanchezâs question onâCNN News Centralâ Oct. 6 regarding whether Trumpâs administration was racially âprofilingâ in its immigration enforcement.
âIs it the case that ⌠you are profiling brown people, that this immigration crackdown is designed to go after people of color?â Sanchez asked.
Miller laughed before answering.
âOh, what a dumb question. The illegal aliens who are here are taking jobs away from blacks. Theyâre taking jobs away from whites. Theyâre taking jobs away from Latinos. Theyâre taking their health benefits away,â he said. âTheyâre taking their school slots away. And of course, in many cases, theyâre committing heinous crimes. We cannot have a system of law in this country that privileges illegal aliens over American citizens.â
