CNNâs Scott Jennings asked fellow panelist and former Biden senior advisor Ashley Etienne a question on Wednesday evening after she defended President Joe Biden calling out âmisinformationâ during his farewell address.
On Wednesday evening, Biden addressed the nation for the last time to discuss his administrationâs past four years. The president said he was concerned about the ârise of a tech industrial complexâ and Americans âbeing buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation.â
On CNNâs âAnderson Cooper 360,â Etienne said that she believed it was âincredibly importantâ for Biden to point out the issue of âmyths and disinformationâ on social media platforms, adding that President-elect Donald Trumpâs incoming administration would âcontinue to undermine the truth.â
Jennings then posed a question.
âHas Joe Biden, Kamala Harris or Kareem Jean-Pierre ever lied?â Jennings asked.
Etienne said she did not know.
âWhat are you talking about? I know where youâre going with this, but thatâs not the point,â Etienne said. âDonald Trump stands up at the podium every day and delivers lies.â
Prior to Bidenâs poor debate against Trump, legacy media outlets and Democrats, including press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, attempted to downplay concerns about the presidentâs mental fitness. They accused Republicans, and, at times, Russia, of creating a negative narrative. During a briefing on July 23, Jean-Pierre labeled videos of Biden appearing confused or stumbling on his words as âcheap fakesâ created by Republicans.
Vice President Kamala Harris, throughout her presidential campaign, was consistently questioned on her flip-flopping of left-wing policies she had advocated prior to entering the White House in 2021.
âYour speech is about the truth, and one thing about Biden that has always vexed Republicans is that he spends a lot of time talking about him being the center of truth and the restoration of the soul of the nation,â Jennings said.

âYet he and his people spend a heck of a lot of time undermining that very talking point, up to and including this year, with a massive cover up of his own condition, âJennings said.
Etienne jumped in and asked Jennings about Trump âlying to the American peopleâ about COVID-19. She said Trump told voters to, among other things, âdrink bleach.â Jennings could be heard repeatedly saying, âDebunked, debunked,â before questioning her argument.
âAre you saying the virus was listening to Donald Trump?â Jennings asked. âI just want to make sure I understand that your position is, is that Donald Trumpâs words induced the virus to kill people?â
Etienne responded.
âNo, what Donald Trumpâs words did was prevent people from protecting themselves and their neighbors, and 500,000 plus people lost their lives. That was my point,â Etienne said. âMore importantly, because of his lies, he didnât create an infrastructure from the governorâs all the way down to the shots in arms to get the economy open again. So lies have consequences. Thatâs what Biden was talking about today.â
Jennings said Trump gave the U.S. the vaccine. Jennings then called upon CNN host Anderson Cooper and said, âThis is crazy. Iâm sorry. This is insane.â
With fewer than six days left in office, Biden is set to leave at an all-time low disapproval rating, with CNNâs poll conducted by SSRS finding only 36% of Americans approve of Bidenâs term.
