The University of Colorado Boulder (CU) sought to partner with an abortion clinic to host a now-canceled âSex Ed Summer Campâ for incoming 5th through 8th grade students.
The event, hosted in part with the Boulder Valley Health Center, planned to cover topics such as âbodies beyond the binaryâ and âgender and sexuality.â The health center announced the camp was canceled due to âsafety concerns,â the clinicâs website states.
âSex Ed Summer Camp is everything your camper wonât always get to learn in school!â the now-removed CU webpage exclaimed. The camp also promised to be âjustice-rootedâ and âaffirming,â according to advertisements.
A CU spokesman confirmed the event was scheduled to take place on campus and was canceled by the clinic but did not provide further detail.

The Boulder Valley Health Center specializes in âreproductive and sexual health,â its website boasts, highlighting abortion and âgender affirming careâ on its frontpage. The clinic specifically mentions offering âconfidentialâ services for minors.

âWe understand how important privacy, or confidentiality, is to accessing medical care,â the centerâs teen clinic page asserts. âWe will not talk to anyone else about your visit, results, medications, or any other aspect of your care unless you give us specific permission to do so. Patient confidentiality also applies to patients who are under the age of 18.â
The teen clinic lists vast âaffirmingâ resources for minors questioning their gender.

The Daily Caller News Foundationâs request for comment was met with an automatic reply email repeating the same language as the website.
âDue to safety concerns, the Boulder Valley Health Center â CU Boulderâs Renee Crown Wellness Instituteâs Sex Ed Summer Camp for 5th â 8th graders has been cancelled,â the clinic stated. âThe camp aimed to provide age-appropriate sex Education to prevent unwanted pregnancies and emphasize the importance of sexual health for overall well-being. Any extrapolation about the campâs intentions is incorrect.â
Current Colorado law provides a ârightâ to abortion and âgender-affirmingâ procedures, including for minors.
