Former FBI Director James Comey is a bona fide Swiftie â and he is being mocked for it.
Comey posted on Substack Sunday when he expressed his admiration for the pop singer, per The Hill.
In the video, Comey called Swift âa truly inspirational public figure.â He also mentioned her appearance on NFL starsâ Jason and Travis Kelceâs podcast âNew Heightsâ last week.
âTaylor Swift and I go way back. I went to my first concert of hers 15 years ago. Iâve been to a second and I have helped financially support the attendance of a lot of family members and others,â Comey said. âIâm in a familyâs Swiftie group chat. I know all her music, and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass.â
Conservative personality Benny Johnson likened Comeyâs post to a âhostage video.â
âA new James Comey hostage video just dropped,â Johnson posted on X.
âThis time he calls himself a âSwiftieâ and says Taylor Swift helps him cope with Donald Trump. You really canât make this up,â Johnson added.
Comey also talked about Swift and how she stands up for what she believes in.
âWe need to stand up to jerks and defend what matters, but I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them, which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift,â Comey said.
âSheâs made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is, and last year, she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him,â Comey continued. âOf course, weâre now living with the consequences of that mistake, but while our elderly makeup- covered president is posting about whether Taylor Swift is still hot and declaring that he canât stand her, whatâs she doing? Living her best life.â
Conservative commentator Dinesh DâSouza posted on X that Comey was trying âto come across as a normal guy, a Taylor Swift fan, and a champion of civility and decorumâ in the wake of âusing his power for years to entrap Trump, Flynn and others.â
Comey and Trump have had a contentious relationship.
Trump fired Comey as FBI director during his first term.
