Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, was reportedly fired from the Department of Justice Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
For nearly a decade, Comey has worked within the U.S. Attorneyâs Office, leading high-profile cases such as that of deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epsteinâs, at least prior to his death, as well as the case of rapper Sean âDiddyâ Combs. According to Politico and the New York Times, multiple sources said Comey was relieved of her duties.
While it remains unclear why Comey was allegedly fired, the news comes on the heels of a loss in her case involving Combs, as a New York jury found the rapper not guilty on July 2 of some of the most serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
The former assistant U.S. attorney oversaw Epsteinâs case in 2019 as one of the lead prosecutors before the billionaire was found dead in his cell in August 2019.
Comey remained silent following reports that her father and former CIA Director John Brennan are under criminal investigation for potential wrongdoing regarding the infamous Steele dossier, according to Fox News Digital. Sources told the outlet that the FBI is allegedly viewing both former directorsâ interactions as a âconspiracy,â potentially opening the investigation to a âwide rangeâ of prosecutorial options.
Comeyâs father came under massive backlash in May after posting a photo to his Instagram depicting â86 47.â At the time, James Comey said he found the âcool shell formationâ during his walk on the beach, but Republicans quickly called out the message as a threat to President Donald Trump, as the term â86â is commonly used to âget rid ofâ or âthrow out.â
The former FBI director later deleted the photo and was reportedly interviewed by the U.S. Secret Service.
The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundationâs request for comment.Â
