Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Masino will step down from her position on Aug. 10, with David Deno set to take over as the restaurant chain's new chief executive.
According to FOX Business, Masino will remain with the company in an advisory role through Oct. 9 as part of the leadership transition.
"Following a robust and thoughtful search process, we are pleased to welcome David as Cracker Barrel's next CEO," independent board Chairman Carl Berquist said in a statement.
Berquist pointed to Deno's experience in the restaurant and retail industries, as well as his record of leading businesses through growth.
He also highlighted Deno's focus on operations, customer experience and employee engagement.
"We are confident David is the right leader to continue building on the Cracker Barrel legacy, drive further positive momentum operationally and financially, and create sustainable value for our shareholders," Berquist said.
The chairman also thanked Masino for her leadership and said the company appreciated her cooperation in helping ensure a smooth transition.
Deno described Cracker Barrel as a "truly iconic American brand" known for its country-style hospitality and connection with customers across generations.
He said he plans to focus on reaching the company's "full potential" while continuing to provide quality food and experiences for guests and pursuing profitable growth.
Masino's departure comes after a controversial rebranding effort that drew significant backlash last summer.
The changes included removing the "old timer" figure from the company's logo and altering the design of its restaurants, many of which feature an attached general store.
The rebranding was part of a $700 million overhaul planned across more than 660 Cracker Barrel locations.
The initiative also included menu changes and efforts to create less cluttered dining areas.
The company reversed its logo decision less than a week after the backlash began.
At the time, Masino said the rebranding effort had missed the mark and was intended to improve the experience for customers.
The leadership change now puts Deno in charge as Cracker Barrel moves forward with its efforts to strengthen the brand and its operations.
The company did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding Masino's departure in its announcement.
