Amid a Crime surge, officials in one California city are urging residents to buy airhorns and security bars for their homes.
According to CNN, Oakland, California, is experiencing a surge in crime so large police have “advised residents to use air horns to alert neighbors to intruders and add security bars to their doors and windows.”
NAACP Oakland Branch President Cynthia Adams has also urged local officials to take action to ensure public safety in the city.
In a statement, Adams accused elected officials of failing to do their job and creating a “heyday for Oakland criminals.”
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office described that depiction of the situation as “a false narrative.”
However, CNN notes, “While the sides appear to disagree on how the narrative is framed, one truth appears undeniable: Oakland is buckling under a rise in Crime.”
