All it took was six words from President Donald Trump after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to draw ire from critics.
“Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed,” Trump told reporters after his meeting with Zelenskyy Sunday at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump was referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, per Mediaite.
The irony of Trump’s statement is it came as Russian troops continued to attack Kiev.
During the press conference after the meeting, Trump said no deal was reached, but they’re “very close.” The president also said Russia will help with reconstruction one the war is over.
“It sounds a little strange but I was explaining to the president, President Putin was very generous in his feeling toward Ukraine succeeding. Including supplying energy, electricity, and other things at very low prices,” Trump said.
