Cruz Calls Greene’s Effort to Oust Johnson ‘Silly’ and ‘Unhelpful to the Country’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says the effort to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is “silly.”

The Texas senator was interviewed by RealClearPolitics when he was asked about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) push to oust Johnson.

“Look, I think it is silly. I think it is seriously counterproductive,” Cruz responded.

He continued:

“I think Mike Johnson is a strong conservative who’s been given an almost impossible task. He has a tiny majority in the House, just a two-vote majority, that means any three House members run off to the hills and the majority evaporates, and I think Marjorie Taylor Greene, to try to topple the speaker, increases the chances of chaos and increases the chances of handing control to the Democrats.”

Cruz added, “There is zero chance a more conservative speaker will result, and so I think what she’s doing is really unhelpful to the country.”

In a post on X earlier this week, Greene blasted Johnson for paving the way for the aid packages to pass the House, writing, “Johnson will do whatever Biden/Schumer want in order to keep the Speaker’s gavel in his hand, but he has completely sold out the Republican voters who gave us the majority. His days as Speaker are numbered.”
