A CSPAN caller was cut off after he appeared to celebrate the idea of assassinating former President Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, CSPAN’s Washington Journal host John McArdle took a call from someone who seemed excited about the idea of shooting the 45th president.
The man identified himself as Willie, a Democrat from Louisiana, who said, “Good morning. I just want to say I’m a very patriotic American. I did 20 years in the military, two tours in Vietnam, wounded in 1966 went back to 68.”
“And I look at myself…and to see we let this man Trump destroy America. And I look at it and say, well, these two people had to step up and take that shot!” he added.
McArdle interjected, “I’m sorry, Willie. You’re not advocating violence, are you?”
“Not violence. I’m talking about defending my country,” the man claimed.

On Sunday, Trump was at his golf club in West Palm Beach when Secret Secret Service agents a few holes ahead of the former president on the course saw the muzzle of an AK-47-style rifle sticking through the pushes and opened fire.
The Associated Press notes the gunman dropped his gun and fled but was later arrested and identified as Ryan Routh.
Law enforcement officials said they found two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera in the spot where Routh was allegedly hiding.
