“Through his serial usurpation of the congressional war power and commission of murder, war crimes, and piracy, Donald J. Trump has acted contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of law, liberty, and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States,” the resolution reads in part.

Despite the dramatic language, the effort faces steep odds.

Republicans control the House, making it highly unlikely the articles will advance. Even if Larson forces a vote when lawmakers return the week of April 13, the measure is not expected to gain traction or move to a Senate trial.

Still, the timing is notable.

Larson is under pressure from a new generation of challengers, including former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin, 46, who has urged him to step aside after nearly three decades in office. Bronin has also built early fundraising momentum in the race.

Larson, a senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, also faced a health scare in February 2025 when he suffered a complex partial seizure while speaking on the House floor.

It remains unclear whether Democratic leadership will rally behind the Impeachment push. A spokesperson for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not immediately comment.

Larson is not alone in targeting the president.

He joins a growing list of Democrats who have introduced impeachment efforts since Trump began his second term. Trump, for his part, has repeatedly warned that Democrats would seek to impeach him again if they regain control of the House in 2027.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently left the door open to that possibility, though she emphasized that Democrats remain focused on addressing cost-of-living concerns.
