Democratic strategist Aisha Mills alleged Monday that former President Donald Trump has shown admiration for Nazis and Adolf Hitler, asserting he “would absolutely attempt to exterminate an entire group of people.”

CNN host John Berman, on “CNN News Central,” played audio of Trump telling radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday that “we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now” while discussing the roughly 13,000 illegal immigrant murderersreportedly in the United States, soliciting Mills’ reaction. The Democratic strategist accused the former president of having “a very sinister philosophy”  and warned he poses a “danger” of emulating Hitler’s genocidal actions.

“My first reaction is that we have long known that Donald Trump has revered the Nazis, he has revered Hitler, he’s read his book, he used to say he had it on his nightstand,” Mills said. “Donald Trump has had a very sinister philosophy, wanting to be a dictator, absolutely dividing people up based on who they are, based on factors about them that have to do with their race and their gender, et cetera.”

“And when he uses language like this, I don’t think that it’s a Freudian slip. I think that the danger of a Donald Trump is that he would absolutely try to exterminate an entire group of people because he thinks that their genes are somehow different than his and faulty,” she added. “And I say this with all the sternness that you hear in my voice because it is serious and Americans should recognize that.”

Despite two recent assassination attempts against Trump, Democrats have continued to characterize him as a grave threat, including likening him to Hitler. Trump denied reading Hitler’s book Mein Kampf during a December interview with Hewitt after facing accusations of copying Hitler in his remarks and planning to be a dictator.

Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are tied at 47% among voters in the crucial swing-states of Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina regarding who they trust to handle democracy, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released in September.

“I never read Mein Kampf. They said I read Mein Kampf,” Trump said. “These are people that are disinformation horrible people that we’re dealing with.”

“First of all, I know nothing about Hitler. I’m not a student of Hitler. I never read his works. They say that he said something about blood,” he added. “He didn’t say it the way I said it, either, by the way. It’s a very different kind of a statement. What I’m saying when I talk about people coming into our country is they are destroying our country.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recorded a total of 13,099 non-detained illegal immigrants convicted of homicide in the United States as of July 21, according to a September letter.
