Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green announced Tuesday morning he will bring articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing the president’s shock announcement Monday night that the United States will take over the Gaza Strip in order to end the Israel-Hamas war.

Green’s announcement that he will seek to impeach Trump comes as the president has been in the Oval Office for less than three weeks. The Texas Democrat accused Trump of allegedly supporting the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians living in Gaza during his speech on the House floor.

ā€œEthniccleansinghas beenacrimeagainsthumanityandIstandheretoday … todenouncewhatthePresidentsaid, todenouncethecomplicityofthePrimeMinisterofIsrael,ā€ Green said in the speech on the House floor. ā€œInjustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America. I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun.ā€

Green said the impeachment articles against Trump would be ā€œfor dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.ā€

ā€œIalsorisetosaythattheimpeachmentmovementisgoingtobeagrass-upmovement,notatopdown,ā€ Green continued. ā€œThepeoplehavegottomoveforward.Thepeoplehavetodemandit,andwhenthepeopledemandthat,itwillbedone.

Green notably introduced articles of impeachment at least three times against Trump during the first administration, but none of his efforts succeeded.

ā€œIdiditbefore.Ilaidthefoundationforimpeachment, anditwasdone,ā€ Green said on the House floor. ā€œNobodyknowsmoreaboutitthanI,andIknowthatit’stimeforustolaythefoundationagain.ā€
