Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green was kicked out of the chamber Tuesday evening after disrupting President Donald Trumpâs speech.
Trump began his joint address to Congressional members discussing his election win, stating how he had won both the popular vote and Electoral College. However, just minutes into the presidentâs speech, Green could be seen standing and yelling at the president, prompting Republican lawmakers to push back against the Democrat lawmakerâs protest, as they could be heard chanting âUSA! USA!â
âAnd won counties in our country 2,700 to 525 on a map that reads almost completely red for Republican,â Trump continued as he could be seen motioning for Green to be removed.
âNow for the first time in modern history, more Americans believe that our country is headed in the right direction than the wrong direction. In fact, itâs an astonishing record, 27 points swing, the most ever,â Trump added.
The president appeared to direct his statement towards Green and Democrats, going on to tout his âastonishing recordâ before Green continued to shout. Vice President JD Vance and Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson could then be seen rising from their seats, with Johnson pounding his gavel and giving Green a warning as he continued to persist in yelling.
âMembers are directed to uphold and maintain the quorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions,â Johnson said. âThatâs your warning.â

âMembers are engaging in willful and continuing breach of the quorum, and the Chair is prepared to direct the sergeant at arms to restore order to the joint session. Mr. Green, take your seat,â Johnson added.
Green, however, refused to take his seat as he could be seen shaking his head no, to which Johnson ordered his removal from the chamber.
âFinding that members continue to engage in willful and concerted disruption of proper decorum, the Chair now directs the sergeant at arms to restore order,â Johnson said. âRemove this gentleman from the chamber. Members are directed to uphold and maintain the quorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions.â
Green could be seen escorted out willingly, with Republican lawmakers chanting âna na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye.â
Prior to Trumpâs address, Democrats had stated that they would be protesting the speech, with some bringing along former federal employees as guests and others reportedly bringing props. During an interview with MSNBCâs Jen Psaki, Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar said viewers âshouldnât be surprisedâ to see âcoordinatedâ efforts from lawmakers to send a âmessage.â
Green had stated on Feb. 5 that he would be bringing articles of impeachment against Trump after the presidentâs announcement for the U.S. to take over the Gaza Strip in order to bring an end to the Israel-Hamas war. During Trumpâs first administration, the Democrat lawmaker attempted to bring articles of impeachment against Trump at least three times but had failed.
After being kicked out, Green was seen outside the chamber telling reporters that Trump uses âincivility against our civility,â before adding that his protest is âworth it.â
