Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez is certain the committee does not need to investigate former Vice President Joe Bidenās past any further.
Perez is backing the committeeās move to not convene an unbiased panel to investigate a sexual assault allegation made against Biden.
The allegation was made by Tara Reade, a former staffer while Biden was a senator, as IJR previously reported.
She is alleging Biden sexually assaulted her in 1993.
ABCās Martha Raddatz asked Perez why the committeeās communication director called the idea of a panel āabsurd.ā
Perez came to Bidenās defense explaining he was already investigated prior to becoming Former President Barack Obamaās (D) running mate.
āThey looked at the entire history of Joe Biden, his entire career,ā Perez said.
He added, āBarack Obama trusted Joe Biden, I trust Joe Biden. Those investigations have been done.ā
Watch his comments below:
Biden denied the allegation in a statement released on Friday.
āThey arenāt true. This never happened,ā the statement reads.
Raddatz noted Biden has brushed aside the idea of searching for Tara Readeās name in his Senate records housed at the University of Delaware.
When she pressed Perez on why they would not just do a search for Readeās name in the documents, he compared it to Hillary Clintonās emails where he alleged nothing was found.
āThis is like the Hillary emails because there was nothing there,ā Perez said.
He added, āWhen you ask the University of Delaware to take a look at something, youāre asking them to look for something that doesnāt exist. And the fact of the matter is that the president of the United States, the former president Barack Obama conducted an exhaustive search.ā
The University of Delaware released a statement stating it has no plans to make Bidenās Senate records public in the near future, as IJR previously reported.
