Singer Dolly Parton has made some bold statements about politicians in her new song.
On Monday, Parton sat down with the āTodayā show and talked about her new rock single āWorld on Fireā from her upcoming rock album āRockstar,ā which comes out on Nov. 17. In the song, the āJoleneā singer didnāt hold back her criticism of politicians.
The lyrics read, āDonāt get me started on Politics / Now how are we to live in a world like this/ Greedy politicians present and past / They wouldnāt know the truth if it bit āem in the aā.ā
When asked who she was speaking about specifically, Parton responded, āAll of (the politicians). Any of āem. I donāt think any of āem are trying hard enough.ā
āIām sure weāre all trying, but I just really think often that they worry more about their party than they do about the people,ā she added.
Parton explained politicians shouldnāt focus on competition and image but on something much deeper.
āIf we just do what we felt was the right thing, rather than whoās going to lose, or whoās going to win this, or whoās going to look better if they do this. None of them are working from the heart,ā she shared.
In a statement on her official website, Parton revealed what led her to write the song.
āThis is a song I felt very inspired to write. I think it speaks about everything and to everyone this day and time. I hope it is something that will touch you and maybe touch enough people to want to make a change for the better,ā the statement read.
In November 2022, Parton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She spoke exclusively with Billboard about her desire to create a rock album following her nomination.
āI had actually thought about that before I even got nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Iāve always wanted to do a great rock album, and Iām going to do that. I donāt know when, but I will do one,ā she said.
