Rap singer Kanye West isnāt feeling the love.
Thatās because West, now known as Ye, is being sued by the estate of Donna Summer, according to Reuters, which reported a Lawsuit was filed in California federal court Tuesday.
Summerās estate claims Ye used her hit āI Feel Loveā into his new album without permission.
āThe Lawsuit said that Ye and singer Ty Dolla $ign used āinstantly recognizableā parts of her song in āGood (Donāt Die)ā for their collaborative album āVultures 1ā after the estate had explicitly rejected their request to sample it,ā Reuters reported.
āThe Summer Estate not only considered the immense commercial value of the āI Feel Loveā composition, but also the potential degradation to Summerās legacy,ā the complaint said. āWest is known as a controversial public figure whose conduct has led numerous brands and business partners to disassociate from him.ā
The Lawsuit claims Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, whose given name is Tyrone Griffin, re-recorded the hook of āI Feel Loveā with a different singer even though the estate prohibited use of Summerās recording or a āsoundalike,ā according to Reuters.
The outlet also reported, āThe estate requested monetary damages and asked the court to permanently block Ye and Griffin from infringing Summerās copyrights.ā
āVultures 1ā was released on Feb. 10 and is currently the best-selling album in the U.S., according to Billboard.
āSummerās estate said that it rejected a request to allow Ye and Griffin to sample āI Feel Loveā on Feb. 3,ā Reuters reported.
Summer, known as the āQueen of Disco,ā died in 2012 from lung cancer.
Neither defendant could be reached for comment.
āAn attorney for the Summer estate said it would ālet the complaint speak for itself,āā Reuters reported.
