Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked President Joe Biden on Thursday if he is bothered by Vice President Kamala Harrisâ plan to reportedly distance herself from his economic policies.
The vice president is planning to rebrand herself ahead of the 2024 election by indicating there is daylight between her and Biden regarding his economic policies, which polls have shown to be a weak spot of his presidency, Axios reportedon Wednesday. Biden denied she would do so in response to Doocy outside of the White House.
âHow much does it bother you that Vice President Harris might soon for political reasons start to distance herself from your economic plan?â Doocy asked.
âSheâs not going to,â Biden replied.
Doocy pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Harrisâ alleged distancing at a press briefing on Wednesday. Jean-Pierre argued Harris has been involved with Bidenâs economic policies and touted its success in strengthening the middle class.
âWhat I will tell you is Bidenomics has been something that both the president and the vice president has worked on,â Jean-Pierre told Doocy on Wednesday. âYou guys have called it âBidenomics,â we talk about how the president is trying to put forward an economic policy building from the bottom-up, middle-out that does not leave behind the middle class and make sure it has equity at the center of it.â
The vice president reportedly intends to outline a plan to tackle inflation and lower the costs of housing, food and health care for the middle class at a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday, according to Axios. Inflation has been a devastating political issue for Biden, as it rose from 1.4% when Biden took office in January 2021 to a peak of 9% in June 2022.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures the price of everyday goods, fell below 3% in July for the first time in two years.
A New York Times/Siena poll from Saturday found Republican nominee Donald Trump leading Harris on the economy 53% to 44% in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. A poll conducted by The Financial Times found Harris edging Trump 42% to 41%, despite nearly half of the respondents stating Bidenâs policies have âhurt the economy.â
Trump accused Harris of âcopyingâ his idea to eliminate taxes on tips earned by service workers in a Truth Social post on Saturday. Harris campaign spokesperson Adrienne Elrod told CNN on Tuesday that the âtax on tipsâ idea is part of her âown agendaâ that is separate from Bidenâs.
