The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has raided the home of former National Security Advisor John Bolton as part of a national security investigation, the New York Post reported Friday.

Federal agents arrived at Bolton’s residence in Bethesda, Maryland, at 7 a.m. Friday morning, the order comingĀ  directly from FBI Director Kash Patel, according to the Post. Bolton, who served as a national security advisor during President Donald Trump’s first term, was previously under investigation for misuse of classified documents; that probe was dropped under former President Joe Biden.

ā€œThis is related to a national security investigation of Mr. Bolton that was shut down by the Biden administration for political reasons,ā€ a source familiar with the raidĀ told Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese. ā€œIt involves stealing classified documents and weaponizing them for political purposes. Kash Patel and Dan Bongino have reopened the investigation. Hence this morning’s raid.ā€ (RELATED: Trump’s FBI Reportedly Ups The Ante On Purging Deep Staters From Its Ranks)

Bolton has been a vocalĀ criticĀ of Trump ever since he resigned from the National Security advisor role in 2019. Bolton has been accused of including classified information in his 2020Ā book, ā€œThe Room Where It Happened,ā€ which sparkedĀ criticismĀ from Trump.

Bolton posted on X around the same time as the raid,Ā criticizingĀ the president’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war. It is unclear whether or not the post was scheduled.

PatelĀ postedĀ a cryptic message to his X page just ahead of the raid Friday morning.

ā€œNO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission,ā€ Patel said in his post.
