Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is issuing an apology for a comparison he made regarding the House of Representatives.
On Thursday night, Americans were aghast after watching a drama filled hearing of the House Oversight Committee which featured several minutes of members lobbing personal insults at each other.
In a post on X, Fetterman shared a CNN article about the moment and wrote, âIn the past, Iâve described the U.S. House as The Jerry Springer Show.â
âToday, Iâm apologizing to The Jerry Springer Show,â he added.
During the hearing on Thursday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) asked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) if she knew what the hearing was about.
âI donât think you know what youâre here for,â the Georgia congresswoman responded. âI think your fake eyelashes are messing upâŚâ
The hearing then exploded with members talking over each other as ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) chimed in, âThatâs beneath either of you.â
The exchange led to a several minute battle over whether Greene would strike her words from the record.
Later, Crockett addressed the House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and asked, âIâm just curious, just to better understand your ruling, if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebodyâs bleach blonde, bad built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?â
Comer asked, âA what now?⌠I have no idea what you just said.â
In case you missed it:
Greene later reacted to the backlash by taking aim at Democrats and Congress, writing on X, âPardon me if I donât talk as nicely as some people would like to hear. Iâm not going to keep you all addicted to outrage and hopium that never solves a problem or stops the inevitable implosion of the United States of America.â
Ocasio-Cortez, who also engaged in the drama, fired back at Fetterman, writing, âI understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a âboth sidesâ issue. But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one.â
âAnd to the women of Pennsylvania: Iâd stand up for you too. Enjoy your Friday,â she added.
