Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) defended a statement made by President Donald Trump about the financial situation for Anericans.
āI donāt think about Americansā financial situation,ā Trump said, which Fetterman contended was being taken out of context.
Before leaving for a state visit to China Tuesday, Trump was asked if Americansā āfinancial situationsā were motivating him to reach a deal with Iran.
āNot even a little bit. The only thing that matters when Iām talking about Iran, they canāt have a nuclear weapon,ā Trump said. āI donāt think about Americansā financial situation. I donāt think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. Thatās all. Thatās the only thing that motivates me.ā
On Wednesday, Fetterman spoke with Fox Newsā Sean Hannity about Fetterman being āthe only voice in the Democratic Party, elected official, that has stood with the presidentā on Iran.
āWhy are these issues so important to you?ā Hannity asked.
āWell, because Iām always going to stand with Israel and the Jewish community. And I would like to remind everybody that Israel is our special ally, and America is always the force of good in that region, but also in the world now, too,ā Fetterman said. āAnd now, why Iām the only Democrat that voted for that, because all the other Democrats, weāve all said in the past, we canāt let Iran build the nuclear bomb. And now, when someone did something about that to really prevent that, you know, why wouldnāt I support that? So Iām proud to have that vote.ā
He then spoke of Trumpās words, explaining what āhe really was saying.ā
āAnd also something that the president said before he left for China. I mean, he said something that got clipped, saying, Iām not thinking about American people financially,ā Fetterman said. āBut what he really was saying, what he did say is like, āI am really thinking that we canāt ever let Iran building a bomb.ā And I mean thatās exactly, thatās the essence of what that is, and to hold that line. I mean, how could we just walk away and not let that-, you know, let that happen. And now the whole world should join us, stand with us.ā
āChina, Europe, all these other countries should say we should demand Iran end their nuclear ambitions. And now we can all get back to building up all of our nation and parts of the world. So thatās here we are,ā the Democrat continued.
Watch:
āPeople, you know, people in my party have forgotten that the Iranians actually the really bad guy. Why are they involved? Because what Iran has been doing for almost five decades. You know, theyāre the ones that organized 10/7. Theyāre the one that created Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis now. So thatās why Iām proud to stand, you know, through this entire thing,ā he added.
