The calendar may say July, but first lady Melania Trump has "Ten Lords a-leaping" in her sights.
First lady Melania Trump started the opening of the volunteer and performer application submission period for this yearâs holiday season at the White House Monday.
âAmericans from every U.S. state and territory are invited to apply for the opportunity to assist with decorating or showcase their talents as a performer at the holiday open houses,â per an announcement from the first ladyâs press office.Â
Every year, hundreds of volunteers help decorate and add some festive touches to the White House as part of its holiday dÊcor.
The White House hosts 10s of thousands of visitors during the holiday season.
âEvery detailâ featured in last yearâs theme, âHome is Where the Heart is,â was personally chosen by Trump, White House officials said at the time.Â
Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old to participate in the decorating that takes places during the week of Nov. 23.
âAll volunteer duties require physical activity, including heavy lifting, working on ladders, and standing for extended periods,â the application page noted.
Performers, which the White House described as âschool bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers,â will perform during holiday open houses in December.
The deadline to apply to be a volunteer or performer is Aug. 28. Two meals per day will be provided, but volunteers âare responsible for their individual travel, accommodations, and personal expenses.â
Selected applicants will be notified by Oct. 2, according to the White House.
