Former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) suggests not many Republicans would miss former President Donald Trump if he suddenly disappeared.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Comstock addressed Senate Republicans’ decision to block legislation to create a commission to probe the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Host Chuck Todd noted Sen. Bill Cassidy’s (R-La.) suggestion that a probe would have more credibility if it was conducted by an independent commission and not a panel of lawmakers picked by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

He claimed, “I could picture Mitch McConnell in another world making the case for this commission using Bill Cassidy’s argument.”

“Well, that was exactly the argument that we were making to the senators,” Comstock said of the push to encourage Republicans to vote in favor of an independent commission.

She continued, “I understand Republicans want to get away from Donald Trump. I mean, if Donald Trump disappeared tomorrow, I don’t think you’d have many Republicans in the search party, right? Maybe a few prosecutors, but not Republicans. So they want to get away from him, but the problem is he’s not going to go away.”

“But this is not about Democrats or Republicans. It’s about the country, and it’s about getting to the truth, and it’s about protecting the Capitol, the people who work there and also making sure this never happens again,” she added.
