A top Georgia election official, Gabriel Sterling, says President Donald Trump is making so many false claims about the election that it is like a game of whack-a-mole to debunk them all.
During an appearance on NBCās āMeet The Pressā on Sunday, Sterling was asked to respond to Trumpās repeated claims that there was widespread fraud in Georgia. He said, āIt is a game of whack-a-mole to even say āthe presidentās statements are false, theyāre misinformation, theyāre stoking anger and fear.'ā
āThis undermines democracy. We have got to get to a point where responsible people act responsibly,ā he added.
He went on to say the political climate is āgetting much worse,ā and argue that there has been a growing inclination among Democrats and Republicans over the years to sow doubts about election results.

Sterling has previously made an impassioned plea to Trump and elected Republicans to tamp down the rhetoric around the election, as IJR reported.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Sterling noted that several Georgia elections officials have received threats ā including a 20 year-old-tech who āhas death threats and a noose put out saying he should be hung for treason because he was transferring a report on batches from an EMS to a county computer so he could read it.ā
āIt has to stop. Mr. President, you have not condemned these actions or this language. Senators, you have not condemned this language or these actions. This has to stop! We need you to step upāand if youāre going to take a position of leadership, show some,ā Sterling said.
He added, āYes, fight for every legal vote, go through your due process. We encourage you. Use your First Amendment. Thatās fine. Death threats, physical threats, intimidation ā itās too much. Itās not right. Theyāve lost the moral high ground to claim that it is.ā
He also argued that officials who have not condemned the threats and heated rhetoric are ācomplicit in this.ā
