Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is putting his trust in the COVID-19 vaccine and is suggesting others do the same.
āIād take one right now. Iāll take two right now. I hear a lot of āIām not gonna take it, because I donāt know whatās in it.ā And you know what I tell them? Do you eat hot dogs? You donāt know whatās in hot dogs, but you eat them. Take the vaccine,ā Kennedy said.
Some top Trump administration officials have received the vaccine.
Vice President Mike Pence, his wife, Second Lady Karen Pence and U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams received the vaccine publicly on Friday, as IJR previously reported.
āI didnāt feel a thing. Weāre gathered here today at the end of a historic week to affirm to the American people that hope is on the way,ā Pence said.
He added, āI also believe that history will record that this week was the beginning of the end of the coronavirus pandemic. But with cases rising across the country, with hospitalizations rising across the country, we have a ways to go.ā
Trump indicated earlier this week he will get the vaccine but has no plans on doing so yet.
President-elect Joe Biden is expected to receive the vaccine next week, as IJR previously reported.
āI donāt want to get ahead of the line but I want to make sure that we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take,ā Biden said Wednesday.
During his appearance on āThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert,ā Biden revealed he could thank Trump for getting the ball rolling on the vaccine.
āThere are some things. I think what heās done, getting the vaccine moving, has been positive,ā Biden said.
Other lawmakers have urged Americans to get the vaccine and expressed confidence in it themselves.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement this week, āAll Americans should have full confidence in the vaccines, knowing that they were reviewed and recommended by the FDAās advisory panelās independent experts.ā
She plans to get the vaccine in āthe next few days.ā
