A lawmaker from Wisconsin believes more should be done to help wealthy Americans.
Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wisc.) made that argument Thursday during which the panel focused on the party’s economic agenda and its differences with Democrats ahead of the midterm elections.
Grothman started by stating President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill cut taxes for “the average guy.”
“Don’t let anybody tell you that people running, uh, Congress right now are looking out for the rich. Actually, I think we should do a little more for them, but, you know, right now, uh, we are doing all we can to help the middle class, right?” he continued.
Grothman then referenced the Trump’s federal budget reconciliation statute.
“If I was designing a tax cut for the rich, I wouldn’t talk about overtime. I wouldn’t talk about car loans, right? We are aimed at helping the average guy,” he added.

CNN data guru Harry Enten said government spending was ranked fourth in Trump’s five “biggest drops” in polling.
He explained the Big Beautiful Bill added $4 trillion to the national debt. As a result, Trump’s approval rating on the issue from -12% to -34%.
Grothman is currently serving his sixth term in the House of Representatives and is up for re-election in November.
His opponent will be Democrat Brad Smith.
In 2020, Grothman was bestowed the title of the most “loyal” Trump supporter among all Republicans in Congress, giving him a “Trump Loyalty Index” of 93, per an Axios analysis.
