Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is denying a report saying she harassed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
Two reporters from The Washington Post said Greene shouted, âHey Alexandria,â twice outside the House chamber on Wednesday.
When Ocasio-Cortez did not turn around, Greene reportedly began to walk faster and shouted at her. She asked Ocasio-Cortez why she supports antifa and Black Lives Matter, calling them âterroristâ groups.
According to the Post, Greene also said Ocasio-Cortez was failing to defend her âradical socialistâ beliefs by refusing to debate her publicly.
âYou donât care about the American people,â Greene shouted. âWhy do you support terrorists and antifa?â
Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said in a statement, âRepresentative Greene tried to begin an argument with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer.â
She added, âWe hope leadership and the Sergeant at Arms will take real steps to make Congress a safe, civil place for all Members and staff â especially as many offices are discussing reopening. One Member has already been forced to relocate her office due to Congresswoman Greeneâs attacks.â
Greene told reporters Ocasio-Cortez is âa chicken, she doesnât want to debate the Green New Deal,â adding, âThese members are cowards. They need to defend their legislation to the people. Thatâs pathetic.â
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Thursday the Ethics Committee should probably look into Greeneâs âverbal assaultâ and âabuseâ of Ocasio-Cortez.
Greene responded on Twitter, âActually, the Ethics Commitee should look into for putting Trump admin staff and supporters on lists to destroy their lives and prevent future employment.â
Greene went on, âShe threatened the livelihoods of Americans for simply being Republicans. BTW, there was no screaming.â
Last month, Greene challenged Ocasio-Cortez to a debate on the Green New Deal, as IJR previously reported.
âIâd like to challenge you to a debate on the Green New Deal economic policy,â Greene tweeted.
She continued, âSince you sponsored the Green New Deal and have a degree in Economics, Iâm sure you are more than qualified.â
