Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) received harsh backlash after raising the prospect of a so-called ānational divorceā on Twitter.
On Wednesday, the Georgia Congresswoman shared a tweet suggesting that people moving from states such as California or New York to Florida should not be allowed to vote for a certain period of time.
āAll possible in a National Divorce scenario,ā she wrote. āAfter Democrat voters and big donors ruin a state like California, you would think it wise to stop them from doing it to another great state like Florida. Brainwashed people that move from CA and NY really need a cooling off period.ā
Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) responded, āThere is no āNational Divorceā either you are for civil war or not. Just say it if you want a civil war and officially declare yourself a traitor.ā
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) tweeted, āDonāt ignore this. I want you to see what a GOP-run country looks like. They will take your right to vote if you donāt agree with them. MTG may sound batty but sheās not kidding and she has fully behind her.ā
The criticism was bipartisan, with Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) tweeting, āRetweet this message to Kevin McCarthy @GOPLeader if you think he should address whether he agrees with MTG or not? Do you agree the media should only ask this question until they get a direct answer? Easy yes or no.ā

Greene tweeted on Thursday that calling for a ānational divorceā is a āwake up call to the one offending the other that theyāve had enough.ā
āIāve been married 26 years, clearly Iām not in favor of divorce. Happy marriages are the result of 2 committed people working together resolving differences and changing behavior that hurts the other,ā she continued. āSo I will NOT apologize when I muse or discuss ideas that stop Democrat voters and donors, who are moving out of the shitholes they created with their Democrat votes and donations, from ruining GREAT red states by bringing your disastrous ideas and destructive votes with you.ā
Finally, Greene wrote, āI donāt want a National Divorce, but I not will tolerate is Democratic Communism. Leave your blue votes in your blue states. If you move to a red state, learn from your blue state experience that your Democrat ways failed. Then we welcome you.ā
