The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) voiced their frustration with CNN over the lack of Latino representation in the network’s streaming lineup.

The group said in a statement it is ā€œappalled by the lack of Latino journalists in the CNN+ lineup. This lack of representation is not only disrespectful to our diverse community, but also disregards the well-qualified Latino talent pool within the organization.ā€

The statement continues, ā€œWe expect Chris Licht to do better to ensure that CNN hosts delivering the news reflect the communities they cover, and that diverse candidates are given equal opportunity.ā€

Earlier this week, Licht was tapped to lead the network.

The group explained in order for CNN ā€œto build a strong pipeline of Latino journalists,ā€ it is essential that the network ā€œdevelop and nurture diverse talent within their news programs, not only to accurately represent communities across the country, but also to positively contribute to the network’s evolving programming.ā€

Concluding its statement, the group said, ā€œDespite a reckoning over race that has motivated many newsroom leaders to commit to diversifying their newsrooms, many news organizations continue to do a dismal job. NAHJ demands that CNN leaders rectify this oversight.ā€

Licht will replace Jeff Zucker who resigned from the network earlier this month after admitting he failed to properly disclose a romantic relationship with an executive at the company.

ā€œI certainly wish my tenure here had ended differently,ā€ Zucker said, adding, ā€œBut it was an amazing run. And I loved every minute of it.ā€

Licht issued a statement, praising CNN’s reputation and explaining he is ā€œhonored to have this opportunity, especially at such an important time for our country and the world.ā€

He acknowledged many are wondering how the network will change.

ā€œThe honest answer is that I don’t know yet,ā€ Licht said.

The Washington Post noted the network’s streaming platform, CNN plus, is expected to launch by the end of this month.
