Vice President Kamala Harrisâ candid statement about protecting her home shocked many, including Oprah Winfrey.
The comment came during the âUnite for America Rallyâ livestream event hosted by Winfrey on Thursday, where the two discussed issues such as gun violence. Winfrey expressed surprise at Harrisâ recent admission of gun ownership during the previous weekâs presidential debate.
âI did not know that,â Winfrey said. âAnd I thought that was powerful.â
Harris responded, âIf somebody breaks into my house, theyâre getting shot, sorry.â The remark was met with laughter.
âProbably should not have said that,â Harris quickly added, smiling as she quipped about her staff handling any fallout.

This exchange follows Harrisâ firm comments on gun ownership during the presidential debate.
âIâve made very clear my position on fracking and then this business about taking everyoneâs Guns away. Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. Weâre not taking anybodyâs Guns away,â she said at the debate.
However, despite her assurances, social media users jumped to criticize Harrisâ recent comments, with some recalling her prior support for gun control measures and mandatory buybacks.
As The Washington Post reports, âKamala Harris supports red-flag laws and universal background checks for all gun purchases.â
