Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy pushed back against former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintonâs âcomplaintsâ Friday on Fox Business following his announcement of DOT collaborating with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Duffy took to X on Wednesday, posting that his department will team up with the DOGE team to âplug in to help upgrade our aviation system.â In response, Clinton quoted the post, saying the DOGE team had âno relevant experienceâ and added that most members arenât âold enough to rent a car.â
âAnd youâre going to let them mess with airline safety thatâs already deteriorated on your watch?â Clinton asked.
Appearing on âThe Bottom Line,â Duffy was asked about Clintonâs pushback. He said he welcomed the fight, adding that the system hasnât been âupdated in decades.â
âListen, I wasnât going to let it stand. Hillary Clinton wants to engage in a fight about a system that hasnât been updated in decades,â Duffy said. âThey tried to update it for the last 20 or 30 years and havenât been able to do it. Weâre using World War II technology. Iâm not going to listen to Hillary Clinton.â
âWe think of DOGE as maybe a cutting body where weâre going to look at the efficiency of government by cutting. I went to Elon Musk and said, âI need you to help me build. What are the best ideas from the engineers that Elon Musk has access to, but also on the Hill or in industry? Letâs all come together and envision an air traffic control system that will be safer, that will allow for more efficiencies, make sure people donât die in our airspace. Maybe letâs do it in a year or two years. Letâs revolutionize the way this system works,ââ Duffy added.

In response to Clintonâs post, Duffy called out the former presidential candidate, saying, âWith all due respect, âexperiencedâ Washington bureaucrats are the reason our nationâs infrastructure is crumbling. You need to sit this one out.â
âIâm not going to go to Hillary Clinton. Iâm not going to talk to her. But a guy that launches Teslas into space, launches people into space, rockets into space and then catches those rockets taken, I sure as hell am going to talk to that guy. Thatâs the guy I want to talk to make sure I have the right system in place,â Duffy said.
âIf you want to complain about that, whoever does have at me. But I want the best minds, and Elon has access to them,â Duffy said. âThatâs why Iâm having a conversation with them in this space, and have at it Hillary! Hillary and Bill know a lot about 22-year-olds. They can have that conversation. But I want the engineers that are 22-years-old helping US out.â
Just a day after Duffy was confirmed to his position, an American Airlines passenger jet collided with a military helicopter near Washington Reagan National Airport on the evening of Jan. 29, killing all involved. Shortly after, on Jan. 31, a small jet crashed into a neighborhood in northeastern Philadelphia, killing all six people on board and injuring 19 bystanders.
