Anti-Second Amendment activist David Hogg claimed President Donald Trump was âa cowardâ Thursday on CNN, saying he should push for gun control measures.
A shooter opened fire during a mass held at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday, killing two children and wounding at least 17 other people before committing suicide. Hogg told CNNâs âSituation Roomâ co-host Pamela Brown that Trump should reverse cuts made to the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institute of Health as a way to prevent shootings.
âThe bottom line is this Donald Trump has the power to do something about this. After Parkland he repeatedly said, you guys are cowards, youâre not gonna do anything âcause youâre afraid of the NRA. We need to do something about guns,â Hogg told Brown. âThat is what he said. And then he met with the NRA and did nothing. Why? Because he is a coward.â

âAnd my message to Donald Trump is that you are a coward, sir,â Hogg continued. âYou are not going to do anything about this issue because you were terrified of the NRA even though you have the power to save tens of thousands of lives. You were the strongest president in modern American history with a chokehold over your party and both chambers of Congress. You have the power to end this, but you are not going to because youâre a damned coward.â
In the wake of the Feb.14, 2018, shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, numerous failures by federal, state and local law enforcement to stop Nicholas Cruz before the shooting came to light. In one incident, Cruz was caught with bullets on school grounds, according to the Miami Herald.
The NRA donated $868,651 during the 2024 election cycle, ranking at 1,112 out of over 40,000 political organizations, according to Open Secrets.
CNN senior justice correspondent Evan Perez inaccurately claimed during a Wednesday segment with Brown on âThe Situation Roomâ that semiautomatic firearms could fire âdozens of bulletsâ with a single pull of the trigger while covering the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. Information on how semi-automatic firearms actually operate (firing one shot every time the trigger is pulled) is available on numerouswebsites easily accessible through a search on the internet conducted by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The suspected gunman, a biological male who identified as transgender, posted multiple videos to YouTube showing firearms etched with messages calling for the death of President Donald Trump. Multiple corporate media outlets referred to the shooter using female pronouns in their coverage of the shooting, despite the shooter being a biological male.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
