Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed a bill on Monday that removes all time limits on abortion. The new law lets doctors decide when to end a pregnancy, even right up until birth. This changes everything for unborn babies in the state. Per Fox News, the state is now the tenth to allow this procedure without gestational limits. Only in very specific cases did the previous law permit abortions after 24 weeks. Now, the rules are gone.

Healey stood at a podium and promised to keep the procedure safe and legal. “We believe that health care decisions should be made between women and families and their doctors, not politicians,” she stated while addressing the crowd. According to Breitbart, the bill passed the Democrat-dominated House and Senate last month. The law takes effect in just 90 days.

Some people might think this is about health, but the details show something else. RedState notes that the state now joins nine others in removing these age limits. A Republican state representative termed it a “very sad day” since a mother can obtain an abortion up until the moment of birth for a healthy baby.

Marjorie Dannenfelser of SBA Pro-Life America said the number of unborn Americans “barbarically dismembered limb by limb” will only increase. The bill is called the “Abortion Up Until Birth Bill” by critics who see it as a radical move.

We need to pay attention to what happens next in our own states. Healey framed this as a shield against national efforts to restrict abortion. She warned that she will ignore what Donald Trump or Republicans in Congress do.

This is a direct challenge to the current political climate. The decision is now in the hands of physicians with no legal time limit to stop them. You cannot un-ring this bell once the law is signed. Families must stay alert to how this shifts the standard of care in their communities.
