Protesters successfully shut down a press conference held by Republican lawmakers on the treatment of individuals arrested for their alleged participation in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
On Tuesday, a group of Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) gathered outside the Department of Justice to push for more details on the treatment of individuals who were arrested in connection with the violence at the Capitol.
However, protesters with whistles and signs interrupted the event forcing the lawmakers to bring it to an end.
Greene addressed the protesters as she said, “To the guy that’s blowing the whistle: we are not deterred.”
“And so for anyone that’s here, being an activist and yelling today, here’s the statement that I need everyone to understand: we will not back down, we will not stop asking questions, we are looking for the truth. And we believe the truth can be found by reaching out and answering and asking the right questions to the right people,” she added.
As she spoke, an unidentified man interrupted and said, “The left is interrupting the press conference. We need to end it.”
